Camp-out

I (Mike) took the boys camping with some friends this weekend.  They loved it!  (As Jordan put it when I asked him if he had fun, "of course I did!")  We found a gorgeous spot at Perry Lake on a peninsula surrounded by water.  The boys have the camping thing down now.  They were really excited to sleep in the tent.  They woke me up a few times during the night; I realized at one point that Jordan had stretched out, so Evan and I were rotated 45 degrees from our original position.

Jordan had a blast running around with friends.  Evan mostly stuck close to the food (except for the time he just took a handful of sausage links around with him).  In the morning we found some tide pools with a bunch of small minnow-type fish and caught some of them.  The boys took turns holding them; I was surprised Evan went for it.  Anyhow, it was lots of fun and I'm so glad to have my two camping buddies!

Okay, I am taking over now.  While the boys were gone camping I thought things would be really relaxed and I would be able to have quiet time to work on some projects.  Well, it turns out that Colette is a a lot easier when she has two little boys running around keeping her entertained.  But, I just got to spend a bunch of time focused on her.

While the boys were camping, I got them each a new bouncy ball to give them when they got back.  So, they came home, got their bouncy balls and ate lunch.  In the middle of eating his lunch, Evan came up to me and said, "Thank you so much for getting me a new bouncy ball at the store."  I love that kid.  He talks so well that I really forget that he is only 2 1/2 years old.  For example, the other day he asked for juice and ice, but I asked if he wanted ice just to make sure and he said, "Oh yes.  Actually I already said that."  I have to remind myself not to expect more from him than that of a 2-year-old.

Jordan is still a bit willful.  We were at a friend's house tonight and he was running around.  Mike asked him to stop but he just looked at Mike and ran away.  Well, he ran into their countertop and cut his head.  We are still trying to figure out the right motivation for him, but he is doing better.  We started a color changing system (green to yellow, red, and then black) and if they don't get to black they get a treat.  It seems to work for him most times.  But when he really wants something he can't be stopped easily.  It was sad though, because tonight he was just upset about not being able to play because we were trying to stop the bleeding.  He wasn't even upset about getting hurt.

Okay, off to bed!
